Tapatjatjaka Art & Craft is seeking a manager for its art centre at Titjikala, a small, friendly, welcoming community 107 km south of Alice Springs.
About the Community & Art Centre
Tapatjatjaka Art & Craft is an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre in the small community of Titjikala, about 107 km south of Alice Springs at the northern edge of the Simpson Desert. It is a quiet and friendly community and is home to Eastern Arrente, Southern Arrernte, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara people. Tapatjatjaka Art & Craft was incorporated in 2008 and produces artworks across diverse mediums, such as paintings, wire sculptures, felted items, punu, batik, raffia and ceramics. The art centre participates in numerous regional events such as the annual Beanie Festival and Desert Mob Exhibition in Alice Springs, as well as holding regular markets. The community has a primary school, child care facility, aged care facility, clinic and general store.
About the Role – Art Centre Manager
Reporting to the Tapatjatjaka Art and Craft Aboriginal Corporation Board of Directors, the Art Centre Manager will:

Salary Package
- Contract
A 12-month contract will be offered, renewable depending on funds being secured.
- Remuneration
$90,000 p.a. plus superannuation as per current legislation. Salary sacrifice packaging is available (capped).
- Hours of work
Usual hours will be 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, ½ hour lunch.
- Accommodation
A modern, fully furnished and fully air-conditioned house will be provided, including electricity, water& internet, at no cost to the employee.
- Travel to take up position
Air fare, or equivalent, to Alice Springs from the Australian capital city nearest the home of the successful applicant will be paid to commence work. As a fully furnished house will be provided, only minor relocation expenses will be paid for by Tapatjatjaka Art & Craft.
- Annual Leave
6 weeks annual leave (based on completion of ordinary hours).
- Time off in Lieu
Where approved by the Board of Directors, you may take time off in lieu (TOIL), up to a maximum of 10 days per year.
- Conditions
Staff employed by the art centre are expected to abide by the relevant sections of the Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct. By-laws apply to all residents and visitors to Titjikala and any breach of by- laws regarding the use of alcohol or other substances is likely to lead to summary dismissal.
- Police Clearance
You will be asked to consent to a National Police Clearance Certificate before commencing employment.
- Probationary period
A probationary period of 3 months will apply. A performance review will be held at the end of the probationary period and continuing employment confirmed subject to satisfactory performance.
